After the 2024 NBA Draft, former Texas men’s basketball standouts Dylan Disu and Max Abmas received free-agent contracts. After a stellar career that saw the Dallas native finish his time in college as the eighth-leading scorer in NCAA history, Abmas will join the Utah Jazz summer league roster.
After transferring from Oral Roberts, the 6-foot senior Abmas played in all 34 games in his one and only season at Texas. He led the team in scoring (16.8), minutes per game (35.1), and assists per game (4.1), and he finished with 3,131 career points, good for eighth place on the NCAA Division I all-time scoring list. Last season, Abmas scored 29 goals or more in double figures and was chosen three times as the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week (Dec. 18, Jan. 15, Feb. 5).
In addition, Abmas was selected for the five-person Big 12 All-Newcomer Team and the All-Big 12 second team.
During his five seasons—four with Oral Roberts and one with Texas—Abmas averaged 19.9 points per game.
After an impressive senior year in college, Disu will join the Toronto Raptors summer league club.
While rehabbing from offseason foot surgery, the 6-foot-9-inch Pflugerville Hendrickson product missed the first nine games of the season before averaging a career-high 15.5 points in 25 games (20 starts). He received multiple Big 12 awards for his play, including first-team All-Big 12 and Most Improved Player of the Big 12.
Kelvin Sampson of Houston, among other league coaches, praised him for his improved play.
“Disu’s game has really improved,” Sampson remarked after the Cougars’ close overtime victory over Texas in late January, 76-72. “He’s capable of going off for 30 on any given night, and we really had to try and account for him in multiple ways.”
After averaging 8.6 points and 4.0 rebounds in league games the previous year, Disu averaged 17.2 points and 5.2 rebounds in conference action.
Earlier this season, in a victory over Cincinnati, Disu scored a career-high 33 points and reached double figures in scoring 16 other occasions. Disu spent his first two seasons as a player at Vanderbilt (49 games, 48 starts), but he spent his final three seasons playing in his native Texas (87 games, 56 starts). At the end of his career, he averaged 5.2 rebounds and 9.5 points per game.
When Texas lost to Tennessee by four points on March 23, 62-58, in the NCAA Tournament’s second round, both players’ collegiate careers came to an end.
Starting on July 6, the California Classic Summer League will kick off the NBA’s summer league schedule. All 30 clubs will be taking part in the NBA 2K25 Summer League in Las Vegas from July 12–22. It will run till July 22. NBA TV or ESPN Networks will show every Summer League game.
