This weekend marks the start of NBA Summer League, which will see numerous NBA players launch their careers. For late draft picks and undrafted free agents hoping to make the NBA squad, the Summer League offers a fantastic venue to display their skills. Four former LSU basketball players who are vying for an NBA spot will represent the LSU basketball squad.
Will Baker – Front
Will Baker, who finished his last season as the LSU basketball team’s starting center, is hoping to gain a roster spot by joining the Detroit Pistons Summer League club. Baker’s chances of being a member of the Pistons are bright because they just finished with a 14-68 record, which is the lowest record in the league. Marcus Sasser, another well-known figure among college basketball fans, is an alumnus of Houston, and Tolu Smith, another SEC alum, will join Will Baker on the squad.
Guard Javonte Smart
In an attempt to demonstrate his skills for NBA organizations, the former LSU Tiger and NBA veteran has joined the Chicago Bulls summer league team. During the previous season, Smart played in one game for the 76ers and also spent time with their G League affiliate. With the Chicago Bulls heading into a rebuild, Smart stands a good chance of securing a rotation spot with the team if he puts up a successful Summer League performance.
KJ Williams: The Force Ahead
The former LSU basketball power forward played in the G League for the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2023 after being selected undrafted. Williams continues to work for the Thunder organization in an attempt to come closer to joining the NBA. After signing center Isaiah Hartenstein, the Oklahoma City Thunder will be difficult to beat, but if he has a good Summer League campaign, he might draw interest from another team.
Darius Days: Let’s Go!
Days has had difficulty adjusting to life after receiving some playing time with the Houston Rockets during the 2022–2023 season. Before playing in the Canadian Elite Basketball League the previous season, Days was a member of the Houston Rockets G League club. Although it might be difficult for Days to get a spot with the Sixers while playing for the 76ers Summer League club, a successful summer could land him back in the G League.
