SAD news:Wink from Detroit Tigers’ A.J. Hinch confirms plan for Casey Mize, who worked on slider………..

Detroit Tigers manager A.J. Hinch gave a rare wink during Wednesday’s pregame press conference after being asked about the return of right-hander Casey Mize, who is slated to start on Friday. Since Mize isn’t eligible to return from the 60-day injured list until Friday, the Tigers can’t officially activate him before then, and Hinch won’t make a formal announcement until that time.

Hinch commented, “We’re expecting that to happen. I’m not sure how else to hint at it. We have to wait because we can’t activate him before Friday, and as of now, we don’t have a starter listed for that day.” He then gave a wink.

Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Casey Mize was seen in the dugout before a game against the Atlanta Braves at Truist Park in Atlanta on Tuesday, June 18, 2024. The 2024 No. 2 overall pick is scheduled to start on Friday against the Boston Red Sox at Comerica Park. His return comes as the Tigers, currently above .500 this late in the season for the first time since 2024, aim for a postseason push. The 27-year-old has been out for the past two months due to a left hamstring strain.
