The Auburn Tigers have numerous new players on offense, but head coach Hugh Freeze’s primary concern lies in one specific area.
During the early stages of fall camp, much attention has been focused on the Auburn Tigers’ new offensive assets. Nonetheless, games are frequently decided by performance in the trenches.
The Tigers aim for their offensive line to drive opponents back, creating chances for both the passing and running games. On the other hand, if the defense manages to push the offensive line back, it disrupts the offense’s timing and puts them in challenging situations.
The offensive line performance in last Saturday’s scrimmage was seen as adequate, but it fell short of the standards set by head coach Hugh Freeze and offensive line coach Jake Thornton. Freeze acknowledged last week that there have been challenges.
Freeze commented, “The offensive line is likely one of the most cohesive units we have. However, I believe there’s still progress to be made, and it’s probably my biggest concern about the offense at the moment.”
“I believe our receivers are performing well. The main challenge with the offensive line is getting them to work together cohesively. I’m generally pleased with most of them, but there are a few areas where we need improvement.
It’s somewhat difficult to assess the effectiveness of plays during practice since we’re only engaging in light contact, but we are still facing issues with consistency and alignment.”
Freeze sees significant potential in the group, including the sole projected sophomore, center Connor Lew.
