This winter, is it possible for the Atlanta Braves to make a trade for a starting pitcher?
It is quite definitely feasible. Anything is conceivable right now.
Atlanta’s rotation has some uncertainties going into the summer. It’s possible that Charlie Morton and Max Fried will both wind up moving this winter. Spencer Strider should return to the Braves in 2025, but adding another pitcher will make sense.
Surprisingly, FanSided’s Lior Lampert named New York Yankees All-Star pitcher Marcus Stroman as a potential trade candidate for Atlanta.
“Impending free agent Max Fried has been a staple in the Atlanta Braves rotation for a hot minute,” Lampert stated. “But the two teams might be splitting up this offseason following yet another postseason gaffe. For Atlanta, Fried’s massive playoff regression has been a regular narrative. He gave up eight hits and five earned runs in two innings during Game 2 of the Wild Card series against the San Diego Padres.
“This offseason, Fried will be joined in free agency by Charlie Morton a 17-year veteran. He exercised his $20 million option and played out the 2024 season on a contract that was about to expire. After the Padres eliminated Atlanta, the two-time World Series winner apparently wasn’t ready to talk about his future, though retirement does appear to be an option.
Stroman presents the Braves with an interesting option considering the unpredictability of Atlanta’s rotation.”
Though purely theoretical, this is an intriguing idea. Before the playoffs even end, there will be a ton of further hearsay and conjecture.
