With the NBA regular season of 2024–25 rapidly approaching, a $60 million center is reportedly on his way to the Los Angeles Lakers in one proposed trade. The Lakers played the Denver Nuggets in the opening round of the NBA playoffs after concluding the previous campaign with a 47-35 record and the eighth seed in the Western Conference.
They would ultimately suffer a 4-1 series loss. After this departure, they fired head coach Darvin Ham and brought in rookie head coach JJ Redick. Star players LeBron James and Anthony Davis were both retained by the Lakers, but they did not add any free agents during the summer. They did, however, choose LeBron James’ son Bronny James from USC and Tennessee’s Dalton Knect.
The Lakers could use a center right now, even though they appear happy with their current roster. National sports broadcaster Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson devised a trading scheme to help the Lakers get one.
In return for Gabe Vincent, a 2025 second-round pick, and a “filler” like Jalen Hood-Schifino, he suggested that the Lakers acquire Mitchell Robinson. Right present, Jaxson Hayes (7’0″), Christian Wood (6’8″), and Anthony Davis (6’10”) are the three centers whom the Lakers are anticipated to start with. Even though Davis is their standout big man, they may use more depth behind him.
Although Hayes is tall, he hasn’t been a consistent player; in the previous season, he averaged just 4.3 points and 3.0 rebounds. However, despite being smaller, Wood produced a little bit more every game, averaging 6.9 points and 5.1 rebounds. Mitchell Robinson, a 7-footer, would be a huge asset, particularly in the rebounding category. With the Knicks, he averaged 5.6 points and 8.5 rebounds per game the previous campaign.
The Minnesota Timberwolves will be the first team the Lakers face in the preseason on Friday. Before hosting the Timberwolves once more on opening night, they will play six exhibition games.
