The day before the MLB trade deadline, the Braves made a major acquisition from the San Francisco Giants, acquiring right-hand reliever Luke Jackson and outfielder Jorge Soler, two key members of their 2021 World Series squad.
The Braves sent minor-league infielder Sabin Ceballos and fan favorite Tyler Matzek from that championship squad to the Giants.

Will the Braves play? The Braves do need to play. They might need a starting pitcher, an infielder, and an outfield bat. Reynaldo Lopez’s status and the time they believe he could return will determine how much they need a starter.
The Braves’ general manager and president of baseball operations, Alex Anthopoulos, may be active, but he will likely be cautious considering the pricing in trades made thus far. It’s not hard to imagine Anthopoulos making a few trades, but it’s hard to imagine the Braves becoming the buzz of the deadline.They anticipate the return of injured players like Max Fried, Ozzie Albies, and Michael Harris II. Furthermore, given all of the injuries to date, it’s hard to imagine Anthopoulos risking a sizable portion of the Braves’ prospects in a trade unless it’s a perfect fit for a reliable starting pitcher who will be a fixture in the rotation for many years to come.
Both yes and no, players cannot be added after the deadline. Although Tuesday is the trade deadline, teams can still sign players until that day.
Players remain available to clubs on unconditional waivers. Furthermore, if the player being traded is on a minor-league contract and hasn’t appeared on an MLB roster or injured list this season, trades are still permitted.
Remember that in order for a player to be eligible for the postseason, he or she must be on a team’s 40-man roster or 60-day injured list by August 31. Major leaguers cannot be dealt after the deadline, so even if teams are able to make trades after Tuesday, they probably won’t have a significant influence.
