A little over a year after parting ways with Aaron Rodgers, the Packers have secured one of the NFL’s top-paid quarterbacks, Jordan Love. According to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, Green Bay has signed Love to a four-year, $220 million extension, making him one of the highest-paid players in NFL history. The contract also features a record-breaking $75 million signing bonus. The team confirmed the extension on Saturday.
Love’s high-value contract, negotiated by David Mulugheta and Andrew Kessler of Athletes First, averages $55 million annually, tying him with Jacksonville’s Trevor Lawrence and Cincinnati’s Joe Burrow as the highest-paid quarterbacks in the league. With the agreement finalized, Love, who had been sitting out training camp until the deal was completed, can now rejoin his teammates on the field. This contract follows a smaller agreement made last year before his first season as a starter, where the 25-year-old quarterback took a risk and ultimately succeeded.
In 2024, with Love stepping into the starting role and having only one previous start, Green Bay opted against the $20.72 million fifth-year rookie option. Instead, they offered him a one-year contract with $13.5 million guaranteed, plus up to $9 million more in 2024 based on performance incentives.
Love stepped up by ending the season ranked second in the NFL with 32 touchdown passes, seventh in passing yards with 4,159, and 11th in passer rating at 96.1. He guided the Packers, the league’s youngest team, to the playoffs and delivered a near-flawless performance in a wild-card win over the Cowboys. As a result of his impressive play, he earned an additional $5 million in his 2024 base salary.
The Packers decided to extend Love’s contract, adding several more years and significantly increasing his potential career earnings by over $200 million. This move brings a clear end to the quarterback instability that has plagued the franchise in recent years and represents a major commitment to Green Bay’s future with Love.
