On Sunday, the Celtics moved closer to securing their key players for the long term.

Following recent long-term contract extensions for Derrick White

and Jayson Tatum, the 2024 NBA champions reportedly agreed to a new deal with Sam Hauser. Hauser’s agent, Jason Glushon, informed ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski that the forward and the Celtics reached a four-year, $45 million agreement.

Boston ensured Hauser would be part of their title defense by exercising his $2.1 million option in late June. By extending his contract, the Celtics prevented Hauser from entering free agency next summer, where he could have commanded a higher price with another strong season.

Hauser, who ranked fourth in the league in 3-point percentage among qualifying players last season, was instrumental in the Celtics’ championship run. Undrafted out of Virginia in 2021, Hauser earned significant playing time, averaging nearly 16 minutes per game in Boston’s Finals series against Dallas.

The 26-year-old is coming off a season in which he set career highs in points, rebounds, assists, and minutes per game, as well as free-throw percentage. If Hauser continues to improve, the Celtics will be even more formidable in the 2024-25 season.
