BATON ROUGE – Mike Williams and Trace Young, members of the LSU men’s basketball team, were named to the Southeastern Conference’s First-Year Academic Honor Roll, as announced on Wednesday by the conference office.
The First-Year SEC Academic Honor Roll recognizes academic performance based on grades from the 2023-24 academic year.
Williams, a freshman during the 2023-24 season, will be a rising sophomore next season. Young, who transferred to LSU this past year, will be a fifth-year senior for the Tigers.
To be eligible for the Academic Honor Roll, student-athletes must participate in an SEC championship sport or a sport listed on their institution’s NCAA Sports Sponsorship Form. The criteria include: (1) maintaining a grade point average of 3.00 or above for the preceding academic year (two semesters or three quarters), (2) being an athletics scholarship recipient, athletics award recipient (e.g., letter winner), or a non-scholarship student-athlete who has been on a varsity team for two seasons, (3) successfully completing 24 semester or 36 quarter hours of non-remedial academic credit toward a baccalaureate degree at the nominating institution, and (4) being a member of a varsity team for the entire NCAA Championship segment of the sport.
