According to ESPN NFL source Adam Schefter, the Vikings and McCarthy have agreed to a four-year contract, which is industry norm. According to Schefter, the deal is completely guaranteed.

“J.J. McCarthy is signing a four-year, fully-guaranteed contract worth $21.85 million that includes a $12.71 million signing bonus and a fifth-year team option,” Schefter stated on Monday.

McCarthy had tremendous success at Michigan. He arrived in 2021 and helped the Wolverines make three straight College Football Playoff appearances. McCarthy threw for 6,226 yards, completed 67.6 percent of his throws, and had 49 career touchdowns to only 11 interceptions while at Michigan.

He led the charge as a starter for Michigan in 2022 and 2023, when they won the national championship. McCarthy was key in Michigan’s first title run since the legendary 1997 season. They defeated Alabama and Washington on their way to winning the championship this year.

The Vikings chose McCarthy tenth overall in this year’s NFL Draft. After Kirk Cousins left Minnesota for Atlanta in the summer, the Vikings needed to make a decision. They made a move, going up to capture Michigan’s quarterback. They’re hoping the decision pays off for a squad still looking for its first Super Bowl title.
