As the Boston Celtics strive to establish a dynasty, they are emulating another successful NBA franchise.
Jared Weiss of The Athletic reported on Sunday that the Celtics are signing Ron Harper Jr. to an Exhibit 10 deal. Harper Jr., who played for Boston’s Summer League team this offseason, is securing a one-year veteran’s minimum contract with the Celtics.
Harper Jr., a 24-year-old small forward, is the son of five-time NBA champion Ron Harper. The elder Harper, renowned for his defensive skills, was a starter on the Chicago Bulls team that won three consecutive championships from 1996 to 1998. He also claimed two additional NBA titles with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2000 and 2001.
Harper Jr. went undrafted in 2022 after a four-year college career at Rutgers. He then spent parts of the last two seasons on two-way contracts with the Toronto Raptors before being waived in December 2023 due to a season-ending shoulder injury.
Now on the mend, Harper Jr. will join the roster of the defending champion Celtics, who are navigating an intriguing offseason.
