The departure of Klay Thompson to the Dallas Mavericks heralds the beginning of a new chapter for the Golden State Warriors. As their window with him gets smaller, the front office is doing everything they can to encircle teammate Splash Brother Stephen Curry (and Draymond Green) with pieces.
The Golden State Warriors signed free agents Buddy Hield, De’Anthony Melton, and Kyle Anderson this summer. And Mike Dunleavy Jr. and company will still have their work cut out for them in the coming months because Curry can become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2026.
Since Stephen Curry is still among the top players in the NBA, the Golden State Warriors have no higher priority than seeing him happy. The four-time NBA champion played in 74 regular season games in 2023–24, averaging 26.4 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 5.1 assists on 45/41/92 shooting splits. That wasn’t sufficient, though, as the Golden State Warriors missed the playoffs.
Before his current contract expires, Stephen Curry will make between $55 and $60 million over the course of the next two seasons. At that point, he will be 38 years old.

The general manager of the Golden State Warriors, Mike Dunleavy Jr., dispelled the rumor that the two-time league MVP will trade teams in his latter years, saying he plans to stay with the team until he hangs up his sneakers forever.

If Stephen Curry waits until next summer, he could be eligible for a two-year, $130 million agreement, according to ESPN’s Bobby Marks.
