Why LSU Football recruiting is on the rise.
Defensive line coach Bo Davis has pulled in three four star recruits in the past week for the LSU Tigers and shows no signs of slowing down.
LSU is working on one of the top recruiting classes for 2025. And not only are they doing it behind head coach Brian Kelly, but defensive line coach Bo Davis who was recently brought over from the Texas Longhorns is proving his worth as well.
Davis is known as one of the best developers of talent for defensive line in the country, as well as being a great recruiter. And it has shown no signs of slowing down since his arrival back in January.
The new hire of Davis for the Tigers has them making waves on the recruiting trail lately. Within a two day span, Davis landed three elite four star commitments on the defensive line for the Tigers. This has elevated the Tigers to fifth nationally according to the On3 high school recruiting rankings for the class of 2025. The Tigers also rank third in the SEC.
What players has Bo Davis recruited at LSU?
Damien Shanklin
The six foot five inch Shanklin ranks as the number one recruit in the state of Indiana and appears primed for the SEC. Shanklin chose the Tigers over Notre Dame who was the other main school in the running for him. This is an impressive commitment for Davis not only based on his talent, but geographically as South Bend is not too far from him hometown of Indianapolis compared to Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Zion Williams
Davis knows his Texas products from his time in Austin. And he identified Williams before his time in Baton Rouge, but continued to pursue him. The six foot three and a half inch 330 pound interior defensive lineman had in state offers from Texas, TCU and Baylor. For Davis to pull him out of the state which now includes an SEC foe in the Longhorns is quite impressive.
Williams could see playing time very quickly in Baton Rouge for a defensive line that is at the moment thinner than usual.
Brandon Brown
Brown can really move for a defensive lineman at six foot tall and 290 pounds. He will undoubtedly add some weight to his frame throughout his senior year of high school, but looks all the part for the SEC from what has been seen.
Davis pulled this one out of Melbourne, Florida, which is impressive considering Brown took three official visits to his home state Miami Hurricanes according to On3.
In addition to Davis’ recent commitments, the Tigers as a whole seem to be building an umbrella around the state of Louisiana with seven commitments in the 2025 class so far, which was an area not focused on by previous head coach Ed Orgeron.
On top of it all, the Tigers have the top player in the country committed in quarterback Bryce Underwood out of Belleville, Michigan which should be an absolute anchor for the class as Kelly and Davis look to bring in top talent to have them contending for a national championship on an annual basis.
