Texas’s Austin Head coach Rodney Terry revealed on Friday that Arthur Kaluma has signed an Athletic Scholarship Agreement (ASA) to play basketball at The University of Texas in the upcoming season. After spending the previous season at Kansas State University and the two years prior at Creighton University, Kaluma will be joining the Longhorns in 2024–25.
Over the course of the last three seasons at Kansas State (2023–24) and Creighton (2021–23), Kaluma (6-7, 225), a forward from Glendale, Arizona, has participated in 101 games (99 starts) and recorded 1,233 points (12.2 ppg) and 619 rebounds (6.1 rpg) in 3,055 minutes (30.2 mpg). In his first three collegiate seasons, he has made 43.1 percent of his shots from the floor (423-982) and 72.8 percent of his free throws (268-368) from the line. Over his career, Kaluma has scored in double figures 68 times, including ten 20-point games, and has racked up double digits in rebounds nine times, recording eight double-doubles. His remaining year of college eligibility is one year.
In 2023–24, Kaluma participated in 33 games (32 starts) as a junior at K-State. He led the team in rebounds (7.0 rpg), scored 14.4 points per game, had 67 assists, stole 27 steals, and had 34.5 minutes per game. The Wildcats finished 19–15 overall and advanced to the NIT First Round because to Kaluma’s performance. Selected as an All-Big 12 Honorable Mention, he made 42.7 percent (153-358) of his shots from the field for the year, including 34.5 percent (51-148) from three-point range and 74.7 percent (118-158) from free throws. Kaluma was among only four Big 12 players—Kansas’ Hunter Dickinson, Kevin McCullar Jr., and TCU’s Emanuel Miller—to be ranked in the top-15 in both scoring (13th) and rebounding (fifth). He scored a team-high 28 times in double figures, including six 20-point games, and finished the season with five double-doubles. After winning games against Villanova (Dec. 5) and at LSU (Dec. 9), Kaluma—who had previously been selected twice for Big 12 Newcomer of the Week (Jan. 22 and Feb. 16)—was named one of five USBWA National Players of the Week (Dec. 12) and the Big 12 Player of the Week (Dec. 11). He averaged 21.5 points and 10.0 rebounds per game while hitting 76.2 percent (16–21) from the field. In 39 minutes against BYU on February 24, he scored a career-high 28 points (8-11 FG, 10-12 FT) and pulled down 10 rebounds.
While assisting the Bluejays to a 24-13 record and the school’s first trip to the NCAA Tournament Elite Eight, Kaluma started all 37 games as a sophomore in 2022–2023 at Creighton. He also ranked third on the team in rebounding (6.0 rpg) and blocked shots (21), fourth in assists (61) and fifth in scoring (11.8 ppg) and minutes (29.4 mpg). Throughout the year, he made 42.3 percent of his free throws (146-345) from the floor and 73.6 percent (103-140) from the free throw line. 26 times, including two 20-point games, Kaluma scored ten or more points. She also recorded two double-doubles. In a game against BYU on December 10, he scored a season-high 27 points (8–14 FG, 4–7 threes). On January 7, against No. 4 Connecticut, he added 14 points and a career-high 16 rebounds.
Kaluma participated in 31 of 35 games (30 starts) during his freshman season at Creighton in 2021–2022, leading the Bluejays to a 23–12 record and a trip to the NCAA Tournament Round of 32. He was selected to the BIG EAST All-Freshman and All-Tournament teams, and on two occasions (on February 14 and March 6), he won BIG EAST Freshman of the Week. Throughout the season, Kaluma shot 44.4 percent (124-279) from the field and 67.1 percent (47-70) from the free throw line, ranking second on the team in blocks (18), third in rebounds (5.4 rpg), fifth in scoring (10.4 ppg), and minutes (26.8 mpg). He scored in double digits on 14 occasions, including two 20-point games. In the NCAA Tournament Round of 32 defeat to No. 3 Kansas on March 19, Kaluma recorded a season-high 24 points and 12 rebounds.
In 2020–21, Kaluma participated in Dream City Christian in Glendale, Arizona, during his final year of high school. In the Class of 2021 national rankings, he was ranked No. 48 by ESPN and No. 49 by 247 Sports. He was a unanimous top-50 national recruit. During his senior year, Kaluma averaged a team-high 24.7 points, 9.7 rebounds, 1.4 steals, and 52.5 percent shooting from the field. In all 19 games, he scored in double digits, including eight 20-point games, four 30-point games, and one 40-point contest. At Tennessee Prep on December 16, Kaluma scored a season-high 40 points, and on February 25, at Colorado Prep, he scored 39 points. He attended Universal Academy in Irving, Texas, for a while before entering Dream City for his senior year.
