The Dallas Mavericks have officially completed a landmark NBA trade, acquiring Klay Thompson along with a 2025 second-round pick. In exchange, they sent Josh Green and a future second-round pick to complete the first-ever six-team trade in NBA history.
Dallas Mavericks General Manager Nico Harrison expressed excitement about Thompson joining the team, highlighting his exceptional shooting ability and two-way playing style. Thompson, a five-time All-Star, brings a wealth of experience, having contributed to the Golden State Warriors’ four NBA championships between 2015 and 2022. Throughout his career, Thompson has maintained averages of 19.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game, shooting impressively from the field (45.8%), three-point range (41.3%), and the free-throw line (85.8%).
At 34 years old, Thompson ranks sixth in NBA history for three-pointers made (2,481) and is close to surpassing Reggie Miller’s record. He has consistently made over 100 three-pointers per season in each of his 11 years in the league. Thompson will don the number 31 jersey for the Mavericks.
In return, the Mavericks traded Josh Green, their 18th overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, who averaged 6.4 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game over his four seasons with the team.
